Pavement Management Program begins for 2021

In 2021, the City of Leavenworth has budgeted $2.1 million for the Pavement Management Program to help fix city streets.

Separate from this program is the Street Repair, which allows City staff to patch and repair potholes and roads in Leavenworth under a separate budget line item.

Adding funding to city streets began in 2016, following a Stantec scan and review of Leavenworth streets showed deterioration. In 2017-2019, the City conducted several granite seal programs for city streets. In 2020, the Leavenworth City Commission increased the budget to $1.7 million toward repairing city streets. 

In 2021, the City Commission budgeted $2.1 million for 2021 Pavement Management Program with multiple repair techniques, which include:

• mill and overlay 
• granite seal 
• pressure pave
• downtown public parking lot repair
• restriping 10th Avenue and Eisenhower Road
• Buffalo Bill Cody Park Pressure Pave lot and mill and overlay drive

“Pressure Pave” is a new tool that will be used this year for the first time on Leavenworth’s streets. It has previously been used in other cities in the Kansas City area, and our engineers were able to view treated streets during the project planning process. In this procedure, pressure is applied to a slurry seal, which forces asphalt down into the cracks of the pavement.
