The Brush Site will be closed Thursday, November 28 for Thanksgiving.

It will be open, Friday, November 29 and Saturday, November 30 according to normal schedule.

The City of Leavenworth Solid Waste Division operates a Brush Site at 1803 S. 2nd Street for City residents to drop off organic materials.

Per State of Kansas regulations, accepted items are:

  • Branches (fee required - see Fee Schedule)
  • Trees must be free of dirt and less than 12 inches in diameter, no roots or root systems still attached (fee required - see Fee Schedule)
  • Leaves and grass clippings (no fee required)

Hours of operation:

  • March through November open Tuesday - Saturday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. with last load accepted at 3:50 p.m. 
  • December through February - Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Starting Tuesday, December 3, the Brush Site will continue winter hours, during which it will be closed during the week and only open on Saturdays through the month of March.

The Brush Site supplies free mulch, wood chips and firewood to City residents during regular business hours. To pick up mulch and compost, City residents need to arrive at the Brush Site in a vehicle that can support the weight of the mulch or compost and the vehicle must have sides. City residents are welcome to load their vehicles by hand with their own tools. At this time self-loading is the only option available.

FEE SCHEDULE for branches. Trees must be free of dirt and less than 12 inches in diameter, no roots or root systems still attached

  • Under 9’ - $5.00
  • 9' to 16' - $10.00
  • Over 16' - $10.00 (plus $1.00 for each additional foot over 16')

Trailers:

  • Under 9’ - $5.00
  • 9' to 16' - $10.00
  • Over 16' - $10.00 (plus $1.00 for each additional foot over 16')

On the first Saturday of each month, the Brush Site is free to City of Leavenworth residents. Commercial contractors working within the City limits of Leavenworth will still need to pay the nominal fee to dump any materials. 

 

BRUSH DISPOSAL SITE POLICIES

  1. All loads will be inspected and fees collected in full prior to dumping.
  2. Collateral for service is not an option.
  3. Dumping is permitted in designated areas only.
  4. Dumping unapproved or illegal materials will not be tolerated.
  5. It is the customer’s responsibility to unload all vehicles and attached trailers.
  6. Dumping area will be considered off limits while the Brush Site Operator is pushing up the pile with the bulldozer.
  7. Brush Site Operator will not pull, push, or jumpstart any disabled vehicle.  The operator will call a tow truck and any charges assessed are the responsibility of the owner and/or driver of the vehicle.
  8. No vehicles are allowed on the grass areas of the Brush Site at any time.
  9. No vehicles are to be parked on site.  Violators will be considered trespassing and vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.
  10.   Anyone under the age of 18 must be supervised by an adult.
  11.   No one will be allowed near a brush pile while burning.
  12.   Only authorized personnel will be allowed in the Brush Site Office.
  13.   Free dumping on designated dates are for City of Leavenworth residents only.  All contractors and non-residents will be charged regular fees.  Current drivers license and/or water bill is required as proof of residency.
  14.   All equipment from the City of Leavenworth will not be provided for personal use.
  15.   The City of Leavenworth is not responsible for accidents, lost or stolen property.
  16.   When requesting compost, mulch, or firewood, all required paperwork must be filled out and signed prior to loading.  The operator will not load firewood.  All firewood is strictly pick up and carry as is.
  17.   No bills larger than a 20 dollar bill accepted.
  18.   This site is not a landfill.  All household waste and construction material are prohibited.
  19.   No loitering.
  20.   All modified vehicles will be charged according to current condition, not original configuration.
  21.   Any illegal activity, disorderly conduct, or suspended drivers licenses will be reported to the Leavenworth Police Department.

 

ANYONE IN VIOLATION OF CITY POLICY TOWARDS THE CITY OF LEAVENWORTH BRUSH SITE ARE SUBJECT TO PROSECUTION.
