Trash cart delivery begins July 10, new trash rules take effect after delivery
Delivery of the City of Leavenworth’s new trash carts begins July 10. The carts will be green with a black lid and say “City of Leavenworth.” Delivery could take several weeks throughout the City.
New rules for trash pickup will take effect after all residents receive their new trash carts, meaning:

No loose items will be picked up. All items must be either in trash bags or in the trash cart.

Cardboard boxes are to be broken down and placed into the cart or trash bags. Bags weighing more than 60 pounds will not be picked up.

Large items will not be picked up with regular household trash collection. Residents can arrange for the disposal of large items, including appliances and furniture, by calling the Municipal Service Center at 913-682-0650 by noon on Thursdays. Staff do scheduled Large item pickups on Fridays. Large item trash collection is limited to 2 items per pick up and there will be a maximum of 1 pick up per month at each address. The City will no longer be picking up massive piles of debris or whole-house cleanouts.

Loose pieces/rolls of carpet and other construction/remodeling debris will not be collected

Brush and small tree limbs will be collected with your household trash; however, these items must be cut into 5-foot lengths or less, and tied into manageable bundles of less than 60 pounds. Loose pieces, over sized bundles or poorly tied bundles will not be collected.

When placing trash carts for pickup, please point the handle toward the street. This enables our staff to load the cart more quickly onto our vehicles. (SEE VIDEO) Trash carts should not be obstructed by cars, trees, bushes or walls. The City-provided carts are the only carts from which our staff will pick up trash.
Residents are not required to use the trash carts. Those who wish to bag their trash may continue to do so, following the new trash pickup rules.
The new trash pickup rules will take effect when all of the trash carts have been delivered, likely in August. Please check on the City’s website, Channel 2, the City’s social media sites or the Leavenworth Times for updated information.
