Filming in the City of Leavenworth
Filming in the City of Leavenworth generally does not require a permit. Anyone is welcome to take videos in safe locations in the Leavenworth community.
However, we do request that you contact one of these departments if your film requires the following:
- City Clerk's Office, (913)-682-9201, if filming requires shutting down a City street.
- City Clerk's Office, (913)-682-9201, for reserving Haymarket Square at 7th and Cherokee.
- The Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department, (913) 651-2203 to reserve a city park. Anyone can film inside a local park. A reservation would be for a film crew's exclusive use of the park. SEE A LIST OF PARKS>>
Other important items to consider:
- Filming on train tracks is not only trespassing and against the law, but dangerous.
- For filming on Fort Leavenworth or using drone videography, we recommend contacting the Garrison Public Affairs Office in advance, (913) 684-1718.
- As of 2024, the Bureau of Prisons does not allow filming of the historic Leavenworth United States Penitientiary, although it is visible from the highway. There is no public access to the facility.
- More assistance is available from the Leavenworth Convention and Visitors Bureau for booking hotels, event spaces or other tourism needs.
