Seventh Street to close temporarily in January 2023

Contractors working on the City’s sewer system will close one block of Seventh Street in north Leavenworth between Kiowa and Kickapoo for about three weeks beginning Tuesday, Jan. 3. Length of closure is weather-dependent.

Seventh Street is the direct route that connects to Grant Gate on Fort Leavenworth. Marked detours will be available along Broadway Street (see map). Contractors have contacted local businesses and residents in the immediate vicinity of the construction.

The 2022 Sanitary Sewer Inflow and Infiltration Project was bid to cost $749,000 and funded through user fees paid into the Sewer Fund. Contractors will replace clay pipe more than 100 years old and replace it with newer sewer pipe material. This will not only protect the City’s sewer system, but also prevent stormwater from entering the sewer system.

Upon completion of the Seventh Street project, drivers will notice a concrete surface on Seventh Street. It will be repaved with asphalt in the spring.
